Groundbreaker: 3333 Main St. Demolition Almost Complete, Making Way for Bastion’s New Development

Bastion Development‘s major Main St. project, 3333 Main (also it’s address), is seeing progress as demolition is almost complete on the building site bordered by 17th and 18th Avenues. This is going to be a big project, bringing the neighbourhood 98 residential units, ground level retail and a new city-owned park space. The building will be five storeys high, with some interesting features that will definitely change the look of the existing block on Main St. (which sits at an S curve along the road that bisects the neighbourhood at present). The building site was previously a large Ford dealership, which sold in 2007 (according to this website, for $14,850,000). The block between 17th and 18th Avenues is longer than most, as it sits on a shift in the city’s grid which provides extra space for development. The demolition is nearly complete, and excavation for the foundations has already begun. As we noted in a previous Groundbreaker, the nearby Mix development will have to deal with construction noise for some time. Take a look at the site and the surrounding block below:
